The alternative to your providing proof is for your
insurer to send a claims inspector round to check the
details of your claim (which is why it is important
to hang on to damaged items); and to advise you on ways
of avoiding similar claims in the future. The inspector
will also be checking that the damage was not caused
as a result of bad maintenance; if it was, your claim
will be rejected.
