Buildings insurance - Filling in the claim form

If you have not already done so (by phoning the helpline), contact your insurance company or broker and ask for a claim form. The form will ask you when, where and how the damage occurred, and how much you are claiming. You should send back the completed form within 30 days of the loss occurring (or from when you first noticed it). If you are not yet able to get an estimate for part of your claim (cleaning and redecorating after a fire, for example), tell your insurers that you intend to submit a further claim later on.
Do not bother to fill in a claim form if the amount you are claiming is less than the amount you have agreed to pay towards any claim or if the damage is not covered by your policy.
