Buildings insurance
- Loss assessors
Regardless of whether your insurer appoints a loss
adjuster, you can appoint a loss assessor to act for
you in settling your claim (contact the Institute of
Public Loss Assessors). A loss assessor should help
you prepare and submit the claim and ensure that settlement
is reasonable. However, think carefully before instructing
a loss assessor. You cannot add his or her fees to your
claim – and these could be as much as 30 per cent
of the value of your claim, whatever the outcome.
